I am often asked what my favorite software application is. Well it changes frequently but in general I am drawn to applications that allow me to be more efficient or more organized. Currently my favorite app is Microsoft OneNote. You can use it as a single repository for all information in any area of life, business, personal, family, etc. It allows you to take notes and track tasks in the same location. In the past I would take meeting notes in Microsoft Word or some other word editor and then pull out all of my tasks and store them in Outlook Task Manager for tracking. However, this added an additional step and the tasks were removed from the context in which they were created. Plus it was hard to keep the meeting notes organized.
Using Microsoft OneNote you can flag tasks directly in the body of your notes as you are taking them. You can also create custom tags within OneNote that allow you to mark tasks based on importance, urgency or type (phone call, email, administrative, etc.).
